I’m so glad you stopped by Organized as a Mother. I am here to help the working mom; let’s face it, all moms, find more time in their day to stay organized. This blog is a great place to find easy tips and tools.
I’m Sarah. I am no expert at being a mom, bless you moms of more than one child, but working full time with a one year old has certainly given me the need to stay organized and keep my sanity! I follow simple, yet effective steps each day to stay on top of everything from my house, to my Nugget (my one year old), to my mind and my work. I started this blog to help the other working moms use those precious hours after work to enjoy quality (I wish quiet) time in the evenings with their families instead of scrambling to get everything ready for the next day. My methods are not rocket science but I’m hoping that this will become a “go to” resource for working moms when you are at a loss and need some organization help!
Why Organized as a Mother?
For those that know me, I am a natural cusser. It is cathartic for me and I love to let them fly. Now that I have my Nugget, I have to be extremely careful and creative with what I say when I need my outlet. Fun fact, there is some research to support that cursing is therapeutic! Take that mom!! Read one of the articles about here if you don’t believe me! So, to stay true to myself, my blog needed a bit of tongue and cheek and Organized as a Mother was born.
I know, I know, you hear daily of people starting a blog and you are sick of it! I get it. I was that person too. Ironically, I’m known to my friends as “Fun Bear” because I tend to not want to try new things. Ever. I would rather be in jammies at home with a book, my lists (I cannot stop making lists) and my family than do something with other people. My friends reading this are thinking “shocker”. But, after I had Ellie, my world flipped upside down and was forced into a new dimension, and while already out of my comfort zone, I thought “what the hell” (see? cussing) and started this blog.
When I went back to work after my maternity leave. juggling work, Ellie and other responsibilities was not as successful as I hoped. One day I would get it together and the next it would implode. So, I made the conscious decision to put some things in place to keep me organized and on top of things, yet still have time for fun with my family. Most days this works! Other days, as you all know, are just meant to be forgotten and never mentioned again.
So, about me. I live in Katy, Texas and met my husband, Josh, in Spanish class my freshman year of high school. He was a junior so I used him for a ride and he used me for my excellent Spanish skills. It was love at first ride.
Today, he is an Admissions Director at a private school in Katy and I am a Nurse Manager at a Community Hospital in Katy. Again, after reading this some of you are thinking this Fun Bear should not be near patients, but I promise I am good at what I do. I really enjoy the science of the human body and some of the amazing things modern medicine can do. After four years of bedside nursing, I realized that my strength is leading, supporting and encouraging others. I went back to get my MBA at Texas A&M, gig ‘em, and became a nurse manager. This is where I found my true calling. Nurses are incredibly gifted. They do remarkable things with little or no recognition day in and day out. They work long hours, hold hands of the dying, celebrate the wins with the healed and cry in the bathroom over the losses. They need someone to love, support and encourage them. I am blessed to be able to do that daily!
I am also mom to Eleanor, or Ellie, or Nugget. I am also mom to our Golden Retriever, Jethro, the original baby, named after the one and only talented Leroy Jethro Gibbs from NCIS, and Asland and Kiki, our two high maintenance cats. Yes, we have a circus. Josh likes to tell me that I’m lucky I met him or otherwise I would be the cat lady with nine cats. Love you too honey. Yes, I purposefully decided to take on another almost full time task of starting a blog. Hence the need to cuss! That’s me. All of me. No holding back here!
