Reading is one of my favorite things to do. I would look forward to summers as a little girl because I could read ALL the books. I read books in one sitting and get extremely frustrated when people interrupt me when I am reading. Tell me it is not just me? I love getting lost in the characters and the plot line. Now that I am working mom, reading straight through does not happen often. I have a hard time starting a book knowing I will not be able to finish it in one sitting. But, I realized that I am sacrificing something I truly love for a silly reason and I promised myself I would read more. I am hoping to turn this into a monthly post! Here are my July book reviews.
First up was Summer Breeze by Nancy Thayer. This was an excellent easy chic read. I loved the characters and became easily enthralled in their story. I, of course, read this in a matter of hours. If want one last good summery feeling read, this is it!
Next, I read The Women in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware. I was looking forward to this book. I am huge thriller fan and loved Girl on a Train and Gone Girl. This one came highly recommended. It’s a good thing I do not have that many followers because I know that I would be getting comments galore about this! It was a good story, the characters were developed nicely and there were some twists but when I finished all I could think was that ending could have been better. Sorry! I still think it is worth reading and I would love to hear your opinion but I read better this month.
A Hundred Summers came next by Beatriz Williams. Good. Five stars good. This one is an easier read too but it is good. I was convinced that I had figured out the plot line and then wham! plot twist. As I read, I was genuinely rooting for the characters and wanted everything to work out. Another, one sitting, read for me!
I mixed it up next with Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. This one was out of my comfort zone of thriller or beach read but I am so glad I read it. It is a heavier read as you have to keep all the characters straight and follow multiple story lines as they intertwine. The beginning was a little slow setting up all the stories, but so worth it. It is part of a trilogy. I have ordered the second book, China Rich Girlfriends, but my sister enjoyed the first one so much, she stole it and is reading it now!
One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid was my next read. Again, really, really good. It is a story about a girl, her love from the past that literally coming back from the dead and her current love. I immediately fell in love with the main character, Emma and was convinced she needed to be with one of her loves. By the middle of the book, I had completely changed my mind! It definitely makes you think about true love and can a person truly love more than one person. I love a book that stays with you.
I did not take the reading challenge lightly! They were SOOOOO good; I hope I can report good reads every month! I was very impressed that I was able to put most of the books down and head to bed at a decent time. It was not easy, but everyone in my family thanks me for it. I’m starting my August book list. Any recommendations? I would love to hear from you!
