If you are new to Organized as a Mother, I confess, I love Christmas. Anything and everything about it. If you know me, this is not shocking! But, I have never been a fan of visiting Santa or getting all wrapped up in Santa. I am a Christian through and through and believe in raising Nugget to know that Jesus is the Reason for the season but I am also a realist and know that she will be exposed to Santa and other Christmas traditions. I am not going to deprive her of knowing any of those traditions. Santa just is not my favorite. In fact, I told my entire kindergarten class that Santa was not real. Sorry mom; I know that took some explaining! I think there are more fun traditions that you can do as a family around Christmas time. Check it out on my 32 Traditions for the Little Ones. Yes, I realize that visiting Santa is on my list. I am not out to ruin children’s lives, I think just visiting Santa is silly!
Too Much Money
Have you really thought about how much you are spending on this visit? I have seen quotes all the way up to $100 for a Santa visit. That is ridiculous!! The least expensive I have seen around my area is a $50 visit each year. $50!! To look at a photo for a month!! Do you know what I could do with $50? What someone in need could do with $50? Probably not visit Santa.
The Picture Quality is Meh
How many times have your Santa pictures turned out exceptionally well? So well, that they become a permanent fixture in a picture frame on your mantel? If you can consistently say “yes” each year; then please send me your secrets! I do not remember seeing any of my sister or my Santa pictures after the Christmas season growing up. I would much rather save money for a professional Christmas season mini session that I can use for Christmas cards and frame and hang in the house! See? So much sweeter and meaningful.
By the time you have scheduled your session, you now get to STILL wait in lines. All the waiting for a 16 month Nugget who does not even knowing who Santa is. The lines have gotten so bad for the “good” Santa. Ladies you know what I am talking about. Who has not posted on Facebook “Where is the best Santa this year”? You know have to make appointments for the creme de le creme of Santa or at the very least pull a time to come back and stand in line for the “good” Santa. This is above and beyond ridiculous. I can get in faster to my gynecologist than Santa. To be honest, the gynecologist is sometimes easier to deal with than Santa.
Yep, the expensive matching outfit you purchased for this very photo. The one they will wear 2-3 times this season and then outgrow? Is it worth it? Can you really see the full outfit when they are screaming or squirming? If you are going to see Santa, here are some adorable, yet inexpensive Christmas outfits.
From Cat and Jack Line at Target:
So, to recap, you just shelled out money for a picture you waited in line for or had to SCHEDULE for a mediocre quality photo. That makes perfect sense!
Did I do all of these this year and last? Yep. Did I complain the entire time? Yep. Maybe someday I will not get sucked into the Santa hype but I will do anything for my Nugget, sometimes really gross things, read about that here, to experience Christmas as a child. We are also so very lucky to give my Nugget the experience of Santa and I will keep doing it!
